News eSports Club K1ck Multigaming Clan

Now that the Summer is around the corner, it's time to look at the Lan Party situation in Portugal. Once a good resource for some of the best organizations in the country when it comes to gathering money and stuff, is it still working in this economic crisis scenario all around ?

We might be tempted to say that the answer is no. Some of the traditional lanparties closed down for good, some like Clan K1ck eSports Club Multigaming Portugal Logo Futurtech will be taking a break in 2009 and some like Clan K1ck eSports Club Multigaming Portugal Logo XLParty don't hand over cash prizes.

Although many Lan Parties are still making an effort to keep the tradition alive, such as the Clan K1ck eSports Club Multigaming Portugal Logo Oeste Lanparty, the prize-money we can find nowadays for the most important tournaments in these events is not what it used to be. The organizers of Clan K1ck eSports Club Multigaming Portugal Logo Futurtech, still a landmark when it comes to good prizes, issued a press release stating that they will only be doing the event in 2010 and Clan K1ck eSports Club Multigaming Portugal Logo LamegoLan, one of the funniest and lucrative parties in the past, never saw the light of day again .

Hopefully we may have in 2009 the come back of Clan K1ck eSports Club Multigaming Portugal Logo aLANtejo, after skipping the 2008 edition, and we are already working in the K1ck Fun Party for 2009, following the sucessful and small event, but with over 1000 Eur in cash prizes, that we have organized in 2008 at Clan K1ck eSports Club Multigaming Portugal Logo Estoril, keeping the K1ck tradition in organizing events such as the Clan K1ck eSports Club Multigaming Portugal Logo Penafiel Lanparty.

Clan K1ck eSports Club Multigaming Portugal Logo XLParty, probably the biggest lanparty to take place every 4 month in the country, brought back some of the Minho Campus Party spirit, but although they have some good WGT stuff from Asus to deliver, you won't get 5 Eur into your bank account even if you win all of the tournaments. So have fun, play some games, go home with some great stuff but also with your empty pockets.

After the big Clan K1ck eSports Club Multigaming Portugal Logo Lanfield ripoff back in 2006, with the organization not paying a good part of the over 14 000 eur in cash prizes (although they have paid K1ck around 95% of what we had the right to claim), the lanparties had a glamour period and although the actual situation is not the best for investing, we must bare in mind that spending careful money in a crisis situation is the best way to build empires. So perhaps it's time for someone to create a Gamegune alike event in Portugal, with big cash prizes and important tournaments, gathering the support of several companies willing to contribute so they can get a slice of the visibility.

Or at least try harder.
